What Makes Our Pet Food Different?
Here's what makes our foods and our company, a little bit different from the rest!
Minimal Processing
By using a gentle dehydration process, we are able to maintain the integrity of our core ingredients. Our fruits and vegetables are harvested at the peak of their ripeness then gently dried. Dehydration ensures that the enzymes, vitamins and nutrients are still intact, so our fruits and vegetables are actually considered raw. Our meat and egg ingredients are dehydrated at a high enough temperature to kill any pathogenic bacteria that may be present. Dehydrated foods are highly nutritious, easy to prepare and store, and light-weight to ship. It also means that you don’t have to worry about feeding your pet any harsh preservatives. Essentially, our only preservative is the lack of air – how cool?
Human-Grade Ingredients and Production - from farm to bowl
When it comes to sourcing ingredients and preparing our food, we fell back on the simple phrase that mothers and grandmothers are mouthing around the world right now, “You are what you eat.” The same holds true for pets. Human-grade, for us, is not just a marketing term. We believe that your pets deserve the same nourishing diets that you would feed your family. All our products are safe for human consumption, a requirement for entry into the human food facility where our products are made. Each of our diets are carefully blended to encompass a broad array of amino acids, phytonutrients, vitamins, minerals and enzymes to help achieve and maintain optimum health. Production occurs in a FDA inspected human food facility right here in California, alongside products such as breakfast cereals and beverage mixes for human consumption.

Feeding Guidelines – Prowl Cat Food
Hydrate the food with fresh, warm water. After hydration, a process that takes just 5 to 10 minutes, the food should be consumed right away. Any leftover food should be treated like fresh food, and can be refrigerated for up to 48 hours or discarded.
The following daily amounts (DRY quantity) should be adjusted to suit your individual cat’s requirements, which vary according to age, breed and level of daily activity.
Cat’s Weight Amount Per Day (Dry)
1 to 6 lbs 1 to 6 tbsp
6 to 10 lbs 6 to 8 tbsp
10 to 16 lbs 8 to 14 tbsp
16 to 20 lbs 14 to 16 tbsp
A 6 oz pouch equates to 1 1/2 cups (dry) and makes just under 1 lb (or three cups) of fresh food. This is comparable with about 3 x standard 5.5 oz cans of cat food.
A 2lb box equates to about 8 cups (dry) and makes about 5 lbs (or 16 cups) of fresh food. This equates to about about 15 x standard 5.5oz cans of cat food.
A 4lb box equates to about 16 cups (dry) and makes about 10 lbs (or 32 cups) of fresh food. This equates to about about 30 x standard 5.5oz cans of cat food. *1 Standard US Measuring Cup equals about 16 tbsp.
Health
Our complete foods (all except Preference base-mix) can be fed as stand-alone diets. Preference requires the addition of protein to create a balanced meal. Additional foods can be added to the suggested serving sizes for all our other diets, if desired – however this is not compulsory! If you do wish to add your own home prepared ingredients, we suggest adding about half a cup of ‘extras’ for each dry-measured cup of food. Depending on how active your pet is, you can feed slightly less Honest Kitchen food to compensate, or simply add the extras to the normal serving for his or her weight. Please contact us for guidance on a good combination for your dog or cat. For convenience, all our feeding guidelines are based on dry-measured cups.
Vitamins and minerals
Each of our foods contains the following, 100% human food grade, vitamin-mineral premix: tricalcium phosphate, choline chloride, zinc amino acid chelate, vitamin D3 supplement, vitamin E supplement, potassium chloride, iron amino acid chelate, copper amino acid chelate.
Storage
Dehydrated foods should be stored in a cool, dry place. Our products have a shelf life of twelve months or more, depending upon ambient temperature and humidity. The date of manufacture is printed on all packages. The containers should be closed tightly between meals. We recommend thoroughly cleaning and drying any container that you use to store the food, prior to refilling.

Like Honest Kitchen's recipes for dogs, Prowl can be fed as a stand alone diet, or as a nutritionally balanced base for home made raw or cooked meals. Keep in mind, cats really enjoy a varied diet and it may be wise to rotate between several different meats as a tasty addition to Prowl, for your cat.
Just like all The Honest Kitchen’s diets, Prowl must be hydrated with warm water before serving. One tablespoon of Prowl will make about 1⁄2 oz of fresh food when hydrated.
Hydrated food is a great choice for cats since it provides them with plenty of fluid which is vital for their delicate urinary and excretory systems.
